CapeVerde
Cape Verde’s ruling party has clinched a landslide victory in municipal elections.
The Liberal party Movement for Democracy won 19 of the 22 municipalities of the archipelago.
The main opposition African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde took two votes in an election seen as an indicator for next month’s presidential poll.
The opposition party’s leader, Janira Almadala, resigned at the announcement of poll results.
Voters are thought to have punished the main opposition party whom they blame for high youth unemployment rates while they had power for 15 years until March 2016.
